if youre just concerned about css running a bit more smooth then the video card is definitely the better option.i know peeps who run css just fine with their 9xxx-2xx series cards and 512-1024mb of ram.

Wait, so an 8800 can't run CSS well enough? What I would suggest is that your Q6600 is lacking in frequency... so overclock it if at all possible. They are known to get ~ 3.6GHz if you know what you're doing.

A new video card will not help you with anything other than being able to turn your AA/AF all the way up, and > 2GB ram is unnecessary for a game as old as source (even on the new engine).

In the true spirit of an overclocker, use the shit you have now and try to make it work harder. If all else fails, get a celeron to 5GHz.

well with the new css update go into options > video > advanced and select multi core rendering, it will help your fps stay more consistent.
