Default Weird FPS lag problems

When playing source randomly my FPS will drop from about 300FPS to about 60 or 30 fps sometimes making it almost impossible to play....

I have a ge force 250GTS 1gb video card but I checked the temp it was running at...

Was running at 52 celsius when it was lagging... I don't think it should lower that much should it?

hmmmm

What CPU do you have? Source is all CPU, source only uses the video card when your near a smoke and or zoomed in with a scope.

Check your processes, make sure there are none running randomly (IE virus canners, updates, etc.) that you were unaware of. turn of anything unnecessary.

You might even want to disable all startup apps temperately to just to test. It's not something other than CPU usage.

Make sure you are also preforming regular maintenance on your PC to stave off heating issues, file caching issues, and to maintain speed.

Making sure your drivers are up to date and running smoothly as Casey said, wouldn't hurt.

52 degrees centigrade sounds alright. Check your CPU temp as well.
