Thread: Competition pressure.

    Default Competition pressure.

Hey forum, I haven't seen a post on this before and I would like to see other Intermediate/pro teams how they handle it.

The theory is in Scrims we play so good making the picks ect. But when it comes to Lan/Online competitions
we all of a sudden change our game play and play really defensive.

It's like we are afraid and not contesting, for example ill be quick peeking mid in a scrim but in a comp I am afraid because i
feel like I am going to get dropped. This goes for Ct/T side.

How do pro teams do it, do they find out if they play better as a aggressive or defensive team and stay consistent to that threw scrims and
    competitions?

I really need some good help on this subject thanks.

I am a leader of an intermediate team in Aussie and we still haven't found our style.

Be confident and sure of your own and your team's abilities. Think about what you're about to do, what may benefit and what may have negative repercussions on yourself and your team. If you do both of those things you'll automatically slide into one of those types of players.

BUT HEY, I'M NO INTERMEDIATE/PRO SO WHAT DO I KNOW.

    (my personal opinion)

Well what it really comes down to is self confidence and subconcious worry about what is going to happen rather than focusing on what is. The pressure to perform on lan is much bigger than online, you are confronting another team, head to head in real life with real people spectating and critiquing the way you play. This is not something you have to worry about from the comfort of your own home and dealing with it involves mentally preparing yourself for it.

What I would personally recommend is when you are in these situations just take a step back, relax and realize you are just there to play the game and have fun. Don't focus on the outcome, don't focus on what people are thinking of you or what they will say when the matches are over, just focus on you playing the game in that moment and that alone.

There is no easy way to simply say "just do this and you will be fine" with the exception of maybe taking a Valium before hand, but just relax there is nothing to be afraid of. Playing scared on lan is very common when people are worrying about outside things not involving actually playing the game right then. You're simply just thinking about too much stuff and it's making you and your team scared of playing aggressively or putting yourself out there because the fear of failure and what people will say and think of you is taking hold.

Relax, have fun, realize this is not the end of the world and it's just a match like any other.

you just gotta man up and take the risk, i know there's a chance im going to die but i do it anyway because i am confident i can frag the other guy before he frags me

What you need to keep on your mind at all time during practice, is that you need to practice EXACTLY how you will play your match. So dont try stuff in a scrims that you wouldnt in a match.

Well, you should try it, but don't practice it as much.
